Troubleshoot problems while setting up custom domain email with Outlook: A step-by-step guide

If Method 1 doesn't resolve the problem, and you're not using a custom domain together with Microsoft 365, you can use the Add New Account Wizard in Outlook to set up your Outlook profile by using the default "onmicrosoft.com"-based email address that's associated with users' Exchange Online mailboxes when you signed up for Microsoft 365. When you use the Add New Account Wizard to set up a new mail profile, you specify your Microsoft 365 password and your default Microsoft 365 email address in the form of @.onmicrosoft.com (for example, kim@contoso.onmicrosoft.com).

SPF helps validate outbound email sent from your custom domain (is coming from who it says it is). It's a first step in setting up the full recommended email authentication methods of SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.

If you are a small business, or are unfamiliar with IP addresses or DNS configuration, call your Internet domain registrar (ex. GoDaddy, Bluehost, web.com) & ask for help with DNS configuration of SPF (and any other email authentication method). If you don't use a custom URL (and the URL used for Office 365 ends in onmicrosoft.com), SPF has already been set up for you in the Office 365 service.

A reply to a forwarded email displays the forwarding email address as the sender, not the custom domain email address. You can't reply to customer email messages from your custom domain email address unless you use a third-party email hosting service with your custom domain.

Please note that this applies only to custom domain email addresses configured at domains.live.com prior to Microsoft shutting it down. If you have an email address ending @outlook.com and are having password issues, this article is not for you.

Once you complete the entire email hosting setup with Zoho, you as the Super admin can access the Admin Console, which is used to administrate the email settings of the organization. There are numerous options to set policies for compliance purposes, to backup accounts, to manage address books, resource booking, and so on in the Admin Console. All the options are menu-driven and hence the administrators do not need to create and execute complex command sets or code files for managing the users and the email service.

Make sure that you're not sending from a verified email address on the same domain. If you set up DKIM for a domain, then all of the messages that you send from that domain are DKIM-signed, except for email addresses that you verified individually. Individually verified email addresses use separate settings. For example, if you configured DKIM for the domain example.com, and you separately verified the email address mary@example.com (but didn't configure DKIM for the address), then emails that you send from mary@example.com are sent without DKIM authentication. You can resolve this issue by deleting the email address identity from the list of identities for your account.

Hi,I set up the account following your instructions.ThanksBut I have this problem , i am not receiving any mails in my inbox. when i send mails from other accounts to this mail it is bounced.i checked the microsoft support. looks like it is some internal problem and not a settings problem. people are reporting other issues with accounts.Microsoft says they resolved the issue. But doesnt look like so. -us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-osend/my-outlookcom-email-account-is-not-receiving-any/02581144-c02b-4cdc-9132-98a8e0531ab1?msgId=2fd9d76f-6dfa-45bc-9a46-81e11265a7a1&page=1

Is there something we have to change in our Zendesk settings? We have not made any changes to our email forwarding setup in years. We've had a ticket open with Zendesk Customer Support for almost 2 months and they can't give us an explanation or solution, so I'm seeking help from other sources. Thanks!

The main suggestion from Apple on correcting this issue is to remove your email account and set it up again. Make sure that you know where your email is saved. If your email account is with InMotion, then deleting your email settings in the iOS device will not delete your email. You will be basically removing your email account from your device and then re-adding it.

Important note: If you are using SSL with your email account, then it is important that you are using the correct ports in your settings. So, when you re-add your account, make sure that you use the correct ports. If you have already added the account with the wrong ports, you simply need to go back into settings, click on Mail, then edit the ports for both Incoming and Outgoing servers. Here is a table of the Secure ports for incoming and outgoing servers:

The certificate will only change ever 3-5 years when renewed however that would not cause the issue you are having as the client only checks that the domain name its using matches the certificate on the server. The problem you are incurring is due to an issue with IOS where the the mail app tries to default to setting usually using the domain name in the email address which will not match the SSL on the server and causes the certificate error you are seeing. Commonly this also corrupts the configuration file so the only option is to remove and re add the email account on the device to ensure it has a clean configuration file. Apple has documentation on how to do that at the link below and if you are still having issues, our tech support can also walk you through it via phone or chat.

If you tend to work without the spell and grammar checker and prefer to work with the auto-check for outgoing emails, you can verify the current settings for this function. First access the appropriate menu:

For example, let's assume you have a TXT record with the host email.example.com. If you set a custom return-path of email during Domain Authentication, Twilio SendGrid will create a record with the host email.example.com. When you complete automatic Domain Authentication, your existing TXT record will be replaced with Twilio SendGrid's record. This will likely break one of your existing services.

I have been trying to somehow configure this email on my Apple Mail client but so far been unsuccessful. I have read several how-to's and tutorials that explain how to configure an outlook.com email on Apple Mail; however, none have explained what to do when you have a private domain running on Outlook.com. Could someone with a similar experience please help me out?

Although DKIM is designed to help prevent spoofing, DKIM works better with SPF and DMARC. Once you have set up DKIM, if you have not already set up SPF you should do so. For a quick introduction to SPF and to get it configured quickly, see Set up SPF in Office 365 to help prevent spoofing. For a more in-depth understanding of how Office 365 uses SPF, or for troubleshooting or non-standard deployments such as hybrid deployments, start with How Office 365 uses Sender Policy Framework (SPF) to prevent spoofing. Next, see Use DMARC to validate email in Office 365. Anti-spam message headers includes the syntax and header fields used by Office 365 for DKIM checks.

If you have difficulty setting DNS records for your domain, your domain host will be best placed to answer any questions about using their interface. If you have questions or problems with anything else, read our help pages or contact our support team.

To troubleshoot the error above, we recommend that you change the header from and reply-to email addresses to a paid service. By setting up your domain for your mailbox, your email will look like [@mycompanyname.com] instead of [@gmail.com]. This will ensure that your emails are not accidentally considered unauthentic per DMARC policy.

Setting this up is relatively quick and easy but there are some pitfalls to notice. This guide walks you through the entire process of setting up an Outlook.com account with your own current email address and how to transfer all your current data.

If you already have an @outlook.com address, then you can use that one or create a new one. If you already have a Microsoft Account for your current email address, it is important that it also has an @outlook alias configured with it.

Along with all of the new features announced for iPhones, iPads, and the Mac, Apple also introduced more privacy and security features to keep your devices and accounts secure. This includes the introduction of iCloud+ which brings perks such as Private Relay and Hide My Email. However, another new feature was introduced but has been limited in functionality, and that is the ability to use a custom email domain with iCloud Mail.

Bounceback messages are often the best way to determine what may be causing your emails not to work. If someone tells you their emails are not being sent to your email address, ask them what bounceback email they are getting. That way, we will better understand what could be going on with your emails and start troubleshooting from there. This is a good read: Email Bounce Back Messages. 2ff7e9595c
